Goals! goals! goals! I have heard a lot of people talk about setting goals, how to set goals and the benefits of setting goals. A goal in its self is very specific but the results are mostly general because it helps us achieve something we desire. So if goals are meant to help us achieve our desires so why does it seem like we need to cast a spell to make it come to life. Is it because they are not realistic? Or maybe we are bad magicians after all...LOL.
A realistic goal is a goal that is achievable. If you really want to achieve your goals and be truly satisfied with the results then it has to come from a place of self awareness. Goals are relative. We as individuals are unique so are our desires and goals. These points below will help you make any goal achievable or realistic.
1. Know who you are and what works for you
Back then in high school, we had compulsory two hour after school for prep(studies). To be sincere I hated it because I felt cheated. I didn't need to study immediately after school, my brain needed rest and by the way I had to go home and do some house chores, rest a bit and then study. That was what worked for me so I didn't really appreciate those study hours after school. For some reasons some of my classmates requested for additional prep hours. I was like " Whaaat!!! Why would you want that" couldn't take it. LOL. I can't blame them because that's what worked for them. We shared a common desire and that was to succeed in the exams but we had a different approach to it. You need to set yourself as a standard when creating goals that will work for you. Don't copy A because you see her succeeding rather you can customize it to work for you.
2. Knowledge and development
There are some goals that need you to get some level of knowledge to accomplish. If this knowledge is not gotten then the goal is close to impossible. Lets say your goal is to bake a cake and you have never baked one yourself, and you have absolutely no idea how its done. There is no way you can accomplish this without a cake recipe(that's knowledge). You need to know what it takes to achieve a goal even before you add it to your list of goals. Its a form of mental preparation. You can do this by breaking it down into smaller steps which are achievable.
3. Take advantage of yourself.
You need to know your talents, strengths, weaknesses and use them wisely and productively. There must be something good about you that can help you make your goal more achievable. Something that you can rely on. It could be a weakness too but what ever it is put all that energy together and make it work.
Its not always you against the world as its popularly said. Sometimes (most of the time)its you against you. Don't deprive yourself from achieving your goals. Consider some of the points above and you will be amazed by how much you can achieve. There is no unrealistic goal, if you can think it then you can do it.
